Discovering the Clown
I’ve been very interested in clowning recently. Taking a couple clowning classes has lit something inside of me. Clowning is like improv where you need to be present for your audience. However, when clowning you can’t really rely on your spoken word … you have to physically embody your beliefs. Clowning is something I want to try because it forces a level of authenticity. You need to be vulnerable for your audience to relate!
I found this delightful video teaching you how to juggle.
Quotes
“Clowns are not little kids, but the clown does have the logic of children.”
“Clowns don’t ever try to do something badly. When an actor comes on and tries to sing a song badly or fail at some kind of acrobatic routine or tell a bad joke on purpose because they think it will be funny to be bad, it’s awful.”
“Clown is a rediscovery of self. The playful self. The ferocious self. The vulnerable self. The artist.”
