Stoner
by John Williams
A critic of Stoner might say that nothing really happens in this book and to the unobservant this may be true. To someone with a keen eye there is much depth in this novel. Like the depths of the sea this novel is calm and still at the surface a simple plot about an english professor, but beneath the surface there is much.
Sometimes, when reading a book I’ll get struck with a feeling that this is a good one that the book has touched something deep inside in me some way. After reading some ways into this book I was struck by this feeling. There is an intense sense of melancholy that arises while reading this book. When Stoner was told that he was in love, I felt that I too am in love with literature.
