Tea: Against Boredom

Against Boredom

I was super excited to try white2tea’s shou puerh. The two teas I’ve had so far are the 2020 Waffles and 2017 Old Reliable and while they’re super mellow and smooth, both teas lacked the zing that I was looking for. For instance the 2001 YS Ripe Pu-erh was so much more interesting! These white2tea cakes left me bored.

TeaDB did an article on white2tea and one of their recommendations was, “You could also buy older factory tea from the 2000s or 1990s. These teas are often thought of as superior to their more modern cousins, mostly due to the factories having access to better material.” The opportunity cost is that for the price point of white2tea, I could have bought more interesting aged factory teas. I want tea to challenge me and these cakes didn’t.

The 7572 just isn’t aged enough and bothered my throat whereas this one is super smooth.

The flavor is something that people who aren’t familiar with it might not enjoy. The tea is dark malty and leathery. It’s not something I enjoyed at first, but now it’s my favorite flavor profile.

It came with a bunch of other oolongs and the foil patch wasn’t labelled.

First taste: Light florally. Definitely vegetal.

After taste: Doesn’t really linger as much as a raw puer would.

There’s an unpleasant note that I can’t really identify. Maybe a little fishy? If that makes sense. I used this cup for coffee before so maybe it’s that? I’m not sure.

I’m not sure I can tell a difference between oolongs yet tbh. I do like the color of duck shit more than the color of hairy crab. The color of duck shit is like a faint brown color.

Perhaps the taste is a bit smoother than the Wu Liang mountain oolong?

This oolong is kind of mid. I’d give it a C tier. It’s fine but its no hairy crab.
